AI app builders for prototypes
Evaluate a demo together with its handoff and operating responsibilities.
Updated 2026-09-27 · Not yet formally verified · No hands-on benchmark performed
The decision in brief
Pick the builder whose output you can inspect, export and operate after the demo.
Consider for
Founders testing an app idea with an explicit code handoff
Not a fit for
Teams with unresolved mandatory data, security or deployment requirements
Define a prototype that can fail
Use a form, a stored record and an authenticated route. Specify invalid inputs and unauthorized access as well as the happy path. A convincing screenshot does not demonstrate that any of these constraints hold.
Choose a trial path
Inspect Lovable for a natural-language web workflow, Bolt for its documented JavaScript path, and Replit for an agent-assisted app workflow. Confirm the actual framework and operating requirements in the sources rather than assuming interchangeability.
Handoff is an acceptance criterion
Ask another developer to build from the exported code and configuration instructions. Inventory databases, domains, secrets and service accounts. If the project cannot be handed over, count that as a constraint even when the initial demo is impressive.
Candidate evidence
Lovable
Founders validating a web-app workflow. Teams treating generated output as production-ready without security review.
| Dimension | Evidence | Source / checked |
|---|---|---|
| Workflow | Natural-language web application builder | Welcome to Lovable2026-09-27 |
| Privacy / data handling | Unknown — not yet verified | |
| Product self-hosting | Unknown — not yet verified | |
| Local model inference | Unknown — not yet verified | |
| Code / data portability | Project code can be synchronized with Git providers; database and service migration still need a separate plan. | Welcome to Lovable2026-09-27 |
| Usage basis | Credits cover build and runtime usage categories; inspect the workspace usage breakdown. | Credits and usage2026-09-27 |
| Plan | Base amount | Basis and limits | Source / checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro — 100 monthly credits | USD 25 / month | Monthly billing Allowance: 100 monthly credits Overage: Not yet verified Taxes: Not yet verified | Plans and billing2026-09-27 |
| Pro — annual commitment | USD 250 / year | Annual total, not a monthly charge Allowance: 100 monthly credits Overage: Not yet verified Taxes: Not yet verified | Plans and billing2026-09-27 |
Switching effort: Before committing, rehearse code handoff, database export and secret replacement. Moving code alone does not prove the complete service can be operated elsewhere.
Bolt.new
Builders evaluating JavaScript web applications. Projects assuming every backend language is supported.

Switching effort: Rehearse the GitHub handoff, then build from a clean checkout. Inventory database, hosting and secret configuration separately from the code.
Replit
Builders comparing a hosted development workflow. Projects with an unverified residency or private-network requirement.

Switching effort: Keep application code, database backups and environment-variable names portable. Test an independent build before considering a migration complete.
Migration and limits
Trial the candidate on a branch; retain the original workflow until tests, export and billing checks pass.
Unresolved before a final recommendation
- Replit: Public pricing extract did not expose reliable plan amounts; confirm the current plan and included allowance.
- Replit: Confirm data residency and export requirements for the proposed deployment.
Local software, a configurable model provider and a self-hosted product are different capabilities. Unknown fields must be resolved for your own requirements.
